Bedford Town

A lively town with its markets, shops, culture, arts and history. The River Ouse runs through town with gardens and memorials, featuring the Bedford Rowing Club Boathouse where the annual Bedford Regatta occurs. Water sports like kayaking, canoeing, and slalom racing are popular activities, along with professional rugby (Bedford Blues) and football (Bedford Town F.C.).
Historical landmarks include an 18th-century Swan hotel overlooking the embankment, remnants of Bedford's medieval castle, and the Corn Exchange. Glenn Miller, though not from Bedford, based himself there during wartime and broadcast live to the nation, with a bronze bust statue outside the Corn Exchange.
John Bunyan was imprisoned in Bedford Gaol and wrote "The Pilgrims Progress" during his incarceration.
